The Domino Theory and The Jehadi Assault on Kashmir |

The Domino
Theory and The Jehadi Assault on Kashmir Subodh Atal, Ph.D. January 24th, 2001 Jammu and Kashmir, although only one part of Pakistan's massive jehad strategy, is the epicenter of its gameplan. Kashmir has become a leading symbol for Islamic jehadis all around the world. Due to the cunning canards spread by Pakistan that Islam is in danger in Kashmir, jehadis from around the world go to the camps run by the ISI and Bin Laden in the thousands to "liberate" the region. In fact more Muslims live in India than in Pakistan, with full religious freedom, but the jehadis easily get carried away by Pakistani propaganda and set sail for the subcontinent. India has failed miserably both in countering these canards and in letting the jehadis know that it treasures Kashmir and its people enough to fight back with its full might. Kashmir's fall would tremendously energize international Islamists against India as it would be looked at as rich reward against the soft state of India and a gaping window into conquering the rest of the subcontinent. It would signal to those jehadis and to Pakistan that India is willing to abandon its own citizens given enough sustained terrorist pressure. This would be the beginning of the domino effect on many other regions of India and in fact the entire subcontinent. Once Kashmir is under the jehadi belt, tomorrow it would be Andhra Pradesh, places in UP and many other regions of India. The ISI has already infiltrated into these regions and is continuously expanding operations. New Delhi is practically held hostage to threats of terrorist attacks as India attempts to celebrate its 52nd Republic Day on January 26th. If the Indian government is thinking of exchanging "land for peace", it is a grave and fatal miscalculation. India should well realize that the Pakistani appetite will not be satiated by Kashmir. The long term goal, articulated repeatedly by many of the jehadi groups, is to break India into many pieces, then move onto the rest of the world spreading their Talibanic view of society. Thus Kashmir may very well be the first battleground as well as India's last stand in this war. |
