Pakistan's Role in State Sponsored International Terrorism

The Global Islamic Terrorist Framework

Kashmir News Network - Press Releases

For Immediate Release
Kashmir News Network
May 14, 2002

Pakistani Terror Can Not be Fought With Restraint or Dependence Upon a Third Country. Kashmir News Network condemns the latest terrorist attacks in Jammu, India and demands quick and uncompromising response from Government of India.

Kashmir News Network (KNN) expresses anguish, shock and anger at the latest suicide bomb attack in Jammu by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists, which claimed 34 innocent lives. Along with the people of India, we share disgust and utter contempt for the Government of India's meek and stereotypical response to this fiendish strike. The Indian Prime Minister's 'condemnation' and the Defense Minister's 'assurances' of no immediate counter-action have driven home to the General-turned-President in Islamabad that he can get away with butchery of human lives and not be brought to book. Pervez Musharraf has learnt that anything including crimes against humanity is allowed when the subject of the crimes is India.

KNN labels the non-reaction of the Indian state to such a heinous attack a crisis of morals and dignity. While the Prime Minister has often gone on record preaching what 'Raj Dharma' (statesmanship) is he has failed miserably to eradicate the Jihadi sore that is consuming India. In a bid to somehow live up to India's 'tolerant' and 'restrained' image, the Indian Government has forgotten that a peace-loving nation can remain so only if enemies of peace and decency are eradicated. In a bid not to 'upset' America's war against terrorism, the Government has washed its hands off its primary responsibility to safeguard the lives and properties of its own citizens. There cannot be a greater tragedy than a Government pandering to external wishes but failing to safeguard its own people. Like Nero, it seems, while India is burning with cross-border terrorism, Vajpayee & Co. are fiddling and cutting out MTV albums.

KNN asks why the Government of India, despite all the accumulating evidence of massive infiltration and fire arms smuggling from Pakistan, is unable to do any more. What good is collection of proof and sharing of that proof with visiting foreign dignitaries if it does not lead to nabbing and punishing the guilty? By depending upon the Bush administration to solve India's own problems, India has mortgaged its national security and integrity into the hands of a nation that has incredulously inducted the world's leading perpetrator of terrorism as an ally against terrorism, and has continued its pre-September 11 policies of looking the other way while the Pakistan's ISI wreaks havoc in India.

Along with a crisis in morals and governmental irresponsibility, India is facing a crisis of impunity in Kashmir, with cold blooded massacres going unanswered and unchecked. KNN urges the Government of India to not delay even one second and implement its tall talk about 'hot pursuit' and 'proactive counter-terrorism'. The people of this great nation are sulking in shame and desperation at the daily carnage of civilians and minorities in Kashmir. KNN calls upon Prime Minister Vajpayee to respond without any more prevarication to the heart-rending cries of the innocents and to the declining morale of an agonized nation.
