Kashmir News Network - Press Releases |

For Immediate
Release Kashmir News Network July 23, 2001 Kashmir News Network (KNN) Demands Vajpayee Resignation After Summit Failure The attack on the Amarnath yatra and the latest massacre of Hindus in Jammu and Kashmir confirms the suspicions of many that Pakistan has put into motion an uncontested strategy to export violence and communal tension into India. While the rationale for the summit escaped many, the Indian government's failure to bring attention to Pakistan's strategy of communalizing and balkanizing India during the summit has compounded the error of inviting the architect of the Kargil war to a lavish red carpet in Agra. KNN believes that Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee should own complete responsibility for not anticipating Pakistan's well known intentions for the summit, and further should own responsibility for limiting India's negotiation position to terrorism, rather than the broader issue of Pakistan-inspired religious fundamentalism that has the entire subcontinent in turmoil for over a decade. KNN believes that by holding the summit, providing Gen. Musharraf with respect he is not accorded by the rest of the world, and then failing to hold Pakistan accountable for its role in religious fundamentalism, Mr. Vajpayee has lost the moral right to govern the nation. This has followed a two- year history of failures including Lahore, Kandahar and unilateral ceasefire. KNN demands that Mr. Vajpayee immediately resign as leader of NDA and Prime Minister and hand over power to a leader who is more capable of ensuring India's integrity and security.
