Kashmir News Network - Press Releases |
|
For Immediate
Release Kashmir News Network October 10, 2001 Pakistan's former ISI Chief's nexus with Al-Qaida Leading Pakistani and Indian newspapers (The Dawn, October 9, 2001, and Times of India, October 10, 2001) are reporting that Pakistan's ISI chief, Gen. Mahmud Ahmed, had ordered Al Qaida financier Omar Sheikh to wire $100,000 to hijacker Mohammed Atta before the World Trade Center/Pentagon terrorist attacks. Pakistan's high-level involvement with last month's terrorist attacks appears to be likely. Thus Pakistan can not be depended upon as a partner in the global coalition against terror. Pakistan's firing of three generals and house arrests of three religious leaders touches only the tip of the iceberg with regard to its deep links to the Taliban and terror. Pakistan's recent unrest and its historical instability suggest that its nuclear arsenal is in danger of falling into the hands of pro-Taliban elements. Denuclearization of Pakistan is an urgently needed step if the world wants to remove a major threat of nuclear terrorism. Subodh Atal, Lalit Koul, Sunil
