Kashmir News Network Asks US to Turn Its Guns against Terrorist Sponsor Pakistan

The attack on India’s Parliament in New Delhi on December 13, and the subsequent implication of ISI in the planning, confirms Pakistan’s unabated role in sponsorship of international terror. Despite being touted by the United States as a "front-line ally" in the global anti-terror campaign, Pakistan, which provided support to the Taliban till late October, continues planning and sponsorship of terrorist attacks in India.

Pakistan has violated the 1999 International Convention against terrorism, as well as the United Nations anti-terrorism resolution of September 28, 2001. Pakistan’s talk about lack of evidence of its involvement in the terrorist attacks on India is reminiscent of the Taliban’s arguments after September 11.

Pakistan’s role in the 12-year long terrorist violence in India’s Jammu and Kashmir state that has claimed over 30,000 lives, its support of the Taliban, and its collaboration with the Al Qaida, make it the leading state-sponsor of terrorism. Pakistan has repeatedly used implicit threats of nuclear attacks to deter Indian action against its terrorist bases, and its nuclear weapons are likely to fall into extremist hands sooner or later.

The Bush administration’s logic in calling for restraint, while a rogue dictatorship continues terrorist attacks on the world’s largest democracy, has become untenable and runs counter to its own campaign against terror. The US will do well to consider that Pakistani terrorists that attack India openly proclaim that their ultimate target is the US.

Kashmir News Network calls upon the United States to stop sitting on the fence in South Asia and turn its forces against terrorist sponsor Pakistan. The Bush administration should end its pressure on India against attacking Pakistan’s terrorist bases. The US should also encourage India in recovering Pakistan-occupied Kashmir that has been misused as a staging area for terrorist operations. In parallel with Indian attacks on Pakistani bases, the US should launch operations to neutralize Pakistani nuclear weapons. Neither India nor the US will be secure until Pakistan’s notorious ISI, its jehadi groups, and its nuclear arsenal are dismantled.
